Since we have quite a few beginner players, we’ve decided to post a few of the lesser understood rules. The kitchen is the area on either side of the net, to simplify the rules listed below, a player under no circumstances can occupy any area of the kitchen if the ball has not bounced first. Successful legal play while in the kitchen is much more difficult on our short kitchen area court. On a full sized court the kitchen area is 7′ on each side of the net, ours is closer to 3.5′.
Rules for the kitchen
- Players can enter the kitchen at any time
- Players can hit any shot from the kitchen as long as the ball bounces first
- Players can stay in the kitchen as long as they want, as long as they don’t volley
- Players can’t volley the ball if their toes are over the white line at the top of the kitchen
- Players can’t volley the ball if their momentum takes them into the kitchen
