Pickleball – Mondays & Wednesdays

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. (Google stats) for the last 5 years. The game is pretty simple to learn and almost anyone can play. We play recreational pickleball in the NHPS gym Mondays & Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30, you may try a night or register for the remainder of the season for $50.

Last week our topic of discussion for clarification was serving. Due to our short court size, faults are not called for the foot placement.

In doubles pickleball, the rules for serving are:

  • The server must have at least one foot behind the baseline.
  • The server cannot touch the baseline or court until after the ball is hit.
  • The ball cannot land in the non-volley zone.
  • The server must make an upward motion on the ball.
  • The high part of the paddle must be below the wrist at the point of contact.
  • The point of contact must be below the waist.
  • The ball can be dropped from any height but the player may not bounce the ball
  • The ball cannot be spun prior to hitting it with the paddle
