2014 Castleton Cup Pond Hockey Tournament

Last year’s tournament was a resounding success and with some cooperation from Mother Nature the conditions look great for the tournament this year at the Sports Fields.  The ice makers have been freezing their bits off but the ice looks near perfect.   Set aside Saturday Feb 1, 2014 for what is sure to be a great day of hockey played outdoors.  Below are the rules and general information for this year’s tournament.  Limited team space is available.  Deadline for entries is January 30, 2014. 2014 Pond Hockey 2014 Castleton Cup Pond Hockey Tournament Rules

Change of Seasons

The Castleton Sports Club would like to thank coordinators Cathy-Rose Patterson (soccer) and Jeff Turney (baseball) along with their coaches and parent volunteers for another successful season of minor sports.   Without all of the support we receive from all of the volunteers we couldn’t run the programs we do. Some work has been done at the fields this fall, including seeding the fields and some leveling around the area of the ice of surface.  Thank you to Northumberland Grain for the donation of grass seed and fertilizer.  Ice making will begin as soon as weather permits.  Volunteers are needed to…

50+ 3 pitch game

A fun game of ball is being organized for retired players of the area to be played during the Family Fun Night.  The game last year turned out to be highly competitive  between some great former players.  Here’s hoping there are few less skinned knees this year.  Apparently the drive to win is alive and well. If you or someone you know is over 50 and would like to play please contact Christine Westbrook to add your name to the list.

Community Fundraiser

On May 25 a fundraiser was held in support of former Sports Club member Robert Depaepe who has recently been diagnosed with cancer.  Organizers put together a fun filled day which included a bottle drive, jumpy castles, BBQ and 3 Pitch tournament.  The community support was great and at the end of the day the organizers were pleased with the amount of money they were able to donate to the family.   .

Minor Ball Registration

Two registration dates have been set for minor baseball, Sat. April 13 & Sat. April 20 from 10:00 until 12:00 at the Sports Fields.  Below is more information from the organizers regarding sign up. Baseball coordinator Jeff Turney would like to make anyone who has minor ball players aware of Blue Jays sponsored instructional clinics in our area.  This would be a great opportunity for little ball players to hone their skills.  Visit the Blue Jays website to register your child at a clinic near you.
